Let me start by saying, it's never fun to be in this position where you have to find a place to take these classes. However, I will tell you that in my experience when I found 1st star counseling, I felt like I immediately belonged there. The staff is absolutely incredible! While there are fa few people there, they take the time to actually listen to you and your story. They genuinely care. Peggy and Sarah are the two best people I've ever found in my search looking for a place to take these classes. I highly highly highly recommend them!

Making poor choices have consequences. I would like to share with anyone going through DV, alcohol/drug addiction and or family matter(s) that are required to take court mandated classes First Star Counseling. Fist Star's counselor is Peggy, her character is genuine and has a Love for what she does and doesn't judge you, but makes you feel welcome. I have learned to not beat myself up for making a mistake, her impacting words are "You have made mistakes, but are not a mistake", she teaches life skills that I have utilized to pass down to my young son, so he hopefully learns some wonderful life skills that Peggy has introduced to me and doesn't make similar mistakes that I have. Coping mechanisms and one day at a time, Peggy teaches enjoying the simple things in life that don't cost a penny, but quality time with your family. Example: lay on the grass and close your eyes, take turns what type of vehicle is passing you, it turns into a wonderful bonding situation that I had never taken time to do and just enjoy and relax. Before bed, count from 100 back in 3's till you get to 1, then count forwards in 3's till you reach 100, best night sleep and again tools I would have never considered trying to get sleep. My favorite though is everyone is exposed to toxic people, alcohol/drugs or things that do not serve a positive purpose in your life. You pretend there is a tumbleweed (things in your life that are not good for you) beside you, then you have you/loved ones(child for me) plant your roots. You mentally out all the negatives into the tumbleweed and give it no water, nourishment nor energy, Now I love myself and my son, I do not want us to get sick, hurt, have harm to our bodies, sadness, to be without money, to not achieve goals, to give up on our dreams, be athletic, get sleep, have energy etc. I learned to only (mentally) nourish, give water and take care of us from the roots up. My son and I use daily and it works! We all know life is hard, and it comes down to, Yes life is hard and it boils down to the choices we make. The underlying truth is life is meant to be enjoyed, if I had not been court ordered (DWAI, ran out of gas had 2 beers and cop helped me, grrrrr)I never would have taken classes, learned these skills, met great people (people I may never have met nor even said hi to)and hear mind blowing stories, from Individuals with terrible addictions, some ridiculous bad luck and a police office approached them, all sorts of scenerios(and some kind of Funny). Just "normal" people. If there is a someone needing to take classes, have a Loved one your concerned about or want to learn "life skills" to better yourself. I highly recommend Peggy and First Star Counseling. They have improved my life and outlook on so much! Thank You First Star Counseling! Liz

This place helped me so much....... Been in and out of trouble my whole life and have had to do a lot of classes. This place has the best classes!!!!!!
